French Music Highlight: Christine and the Queens

If you’re looking to add some new pizzazz to your “French Music” playlist on iTunes, you definitely have to check out Christine and the Queens.

Despite her band name, Christine and the Queens is actually a solo artist, a French woman by the name of Héloïse Letissier. Her singing and songwriting work are in the genre of synthpop, and she’s recently gained worldwide renown! Her first album, Chaleur humaine, contains her most famous songs to date, “Saint-Claude” and “Christine”. Letissier is also recognized for her dedication to trans rights and her decision to come out as pansexual.

In 2015, Christine and the Queens released the English version of her album, which can now be found on iTunes! Unfortunately, the French version of her album can only be found through YouTube for people living in the USA.

If Christine and the Queens isn’t quite your thing, keep an eye out for future music highlights! We’ll try to showcase a variety of styles and artists. Feel free to shoot us an email at fritnews@umn.edu with French or Italian music recommendations!
