Alliance Française has four internship openings, and they encourage UMN students to apply! Although the positions are unpaid, they require only 10 hours of work per week in the AFMSP office, with flexible office hours (any time between 9:00am-8:00pm M-Th, 9:00am-5:00pm F, Sa) that can be determined by the intern. Interns are also offered a membership to AF, and may take classes offered by them at no cost. Here are the details of the positions and how to apply:
Alliance Française Mpls/St. Paul is looking for people who are passionate about the French culture, and who have a background in event planning, cultural studies, international development, and/or an interest in the French language. Event Planning Intern:
Cultural events are a large part of the Alliance Francaise Mpls/St Paul, with over 150 events planned each year! Events are important to our non-profit organization as they play a major part in our mission to increase French cultural awareness within the Twin Cities. The Event Planning Intern works as the assistant to our Cultural Programs Coordinator, Ibou Wone. Day to day work includes, helping to establish partnerships with businesses around the community, keeping up to date records of Event data, frequently updating our website, blog, and social media, notifying members of upcoming events. The Event Planning intern is expected to attend at least one event each month, to help with set up and execution of event.
The Event Planning Intern is a member of the Programs Committee, a group of volunteers who assist AFMSP staff in creating a diverse and well-attended calendar of events. As part of the committee, the Event Planning intern assists in writing the agenda and takes minutes at each meeting, pitches ideas for future events and works as part of a sub-committee, and keeps in close contact with members of the committee between meetings. Programs Committee meets every first Thursday of the month from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Availability to attend this meeting is required.
Young Professionals Group Intern:
AFMSP’s Young Professionals Group (Jeunes Cadres Dynamiques) is seeking a new leader. Engaging with young people is vital to our non-profit organization, and AFMSP organizes one event each month, geared towards French speakers in their 20s and 30s who are interested in meeting others and speaking French. The Young Professionals Group Intern acts as leader of our Young Professionals Group. This intern is responsible for organizing and hosting one event each month, communicates with and helps to establish partnerships with businesses around the community, keeps up to date records of Event data, including outreach and finances, is responsible for maintaining an active voice on the group’s Facebook page, notifying members of upcoming events, and attends events, helping with set up, and execution of event. This intern must have an outgoing personality, an interest in meeting new people, and be confident in speaking French. Fluency is not required, but an interest in speaking French is a must. To plan successful events, the Young Professionals Group intern works closely with our Cultural Programs Coordinator and our Programs Committee. The Programs Committee meets monthly, the first Thursday of each month from 6:00-7:30 pm. It is preferred, but not required, that the JCD intern attend this meeting.
Resource Directory Intern:
The Resource Directory Intern is responsible for the content and ad sales in the 2018 French Resource Directory, a printed booklet which provides listings of all things French in the Twin Cities. This intern will proof existing text from the previous year and write new copy, confirm content and add new French/Francophone contacts within the directory, and will sell ads to contacts within the directory. The Resource Directory intern will work very closely with our Resource Directory Graphic Design Intern and Volunteer Coordinator. Must be confident in sales and writing skills. Must also have a schedule with some day time availability as ad sales will mostly take place during this time. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally via email/phone. Interest and/or experience in advertising and the French culture and language preferred, but not required.

Resource Directory Graphic Intern:
This Graphic Design Intern will design the 2018 edition of Resource Directory. The Resource Directory is a paper ambassador of the Alliance and contains info not only on our organization, but contains the contact info for local French and Francophone businesses, conversation groups and book clubs in the area. The RD Graphic Design intern will design the booklet and may help with designing ads for small businesses. Will work most closely with our Volunteer Coordinator and the Resource Directory Intern.
