Italian Music Highlight: Annalisa

This week, we’re honoring Italian singer-songwriter Annalisa! After participating in two bands (Elaphe Guttata and leNoire), she has gained popularity as a solo artist in recent years.

Born in Savona, Italy, Annalisa Scarrone began studying music at a young age with classical guitar and flute. Even at the young age of thirteen, she worked as a musician and a bartender before she gained her current following. Her emotional music participates in both the pop and soul genres.

Annalisa’s first burst of popularity followed her participation in the talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi in 2010, where she placed second, followed by additional renown after singing in the Festival of Sanremo in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2018. Most recently, at the 2018 festival, she placed in third with “Il Mondo Prima Di Te.”

A prolific writer and artist, Annalisa has created four albums and sixteen singles, with three of her albums reaching the status of platinum discs and five being gold. Most recently, her song “Bye Bye” has gained massive popularity in Italy, and its music video has gained over half a million views in only three days on YouTube.

If Annalisa isn’t quite your style, check out our other music highlights or send us your own! We would love to receive musician suggestions, so send us an email at fritnews@umn.edu if there’s an Italian musician that you’d like to share.
